Relate

My eyes well up
I ask you to look away
To give me a moment
You oblige
But mistake this sadness
As grief for him
But it’s a sadness that has been in my soul since birth
A loneliness
A feeling of being misunderstood
Such as you’re doing now
While thinking you can relate

Inspired by a journal entry examining a recent hookup

The Small Reminders

The small reminders
The tickets to the show I booked way too far in advance
The autofill of your address
That friend’s coworker who shares your name
Your birthday marked in my calendar I forgot to erase
Some days they remind me
How far I have come
And some days
They swallow me
Painfully with teeth

This was a post-run shower thought

Garlic

Another poem from running ruminations. Debating if I should keep the title as Garlic or just use an eye roll emoji…

You stand behind me
Telling me garlic doesn’t belong on eggs
I will not put them on your eggs
No you will not put them on any eggs
My sister calls me
To tell me
She was making eggs
And our father stood behind her
Telling her she was holding the garlic wrong
